Enhanced CO2 Capture by Sorption on Electrospun Poly (Methyl Methacrylate)

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is characterized by high CO2 capture yield under mild pressures and temperatures. A morphological modification of powdery amorphous PMMA (pPMMA) carried out electrospinning to increase the surface/volume ratio resulting electrospun PMMAs (ePMMAs). This improves kinetics yields. The rate constants observed for ePMMAs are two three times higher than those pPMMA, reaching 90% saturation values within 5–7 s. amount sorbed up eleven at 1 °C, highest difference in captured lowest tested pressure MPa. operating life shows a 5% loss after ten consecutive runs, indicating good durability. Spent several cycles sorption-desorption can be regenerated melting again molten mass, performance that undistinguishable from with fresh ePMMA. Scanning electron atomic force microscopies show reduction surface roughness gas exposure, possibly due plasticization effect CO2. study potential as solid sorbents carbon natural or pre-combustion oxyfuel combustion processes.
